Mapping The Experience

I like maps a lot. Since childhood I’ve collected and created maps. They are probably the reason why I’m always traveling, on a journey. A map gives us information – about the places we can go to, how to get there, and also lets us trace our past experiences, but it can never replace the reality it represents. So in a way, maps are like our minds, they merely project and try to make sense of the vast and incomprehensible reality. The mind is also a map; we have certain concepts of reality (our perception of it) and how things fit together. The experiences not only create a map but also our identity.
I have mapped out my entire experience in Slovenia over the past couple years, every city or area that I have been to was cut out, drawn and installed onto the gallery walls in a panorama type of map. A legend and a 'You Are Here' type of direction is for the viewer to 'pin' the types of places they have been, felt or experienced.
